How to Host an Unforgettable Kids New Year’s Eve Party with Games and Activities

Want to throw a kids New Years Eve Party they will remember forever? Then this is it.

I have three children and they all invited a few friends over for a NYE celebration. It was from 4:30-9:00. Yes, it was a long time and by all means you can make it shorter but I had so many fun activities I wanted to fit in! I had a balloon that I popped every 15min with a game or activity listed inside. (Pro tip: the balloons with the confetti are way more fun to pop than regular balloons!). This kept the kids busy!!

I alternated between Minute to Win it games, and craft/activities.

  • 4:45 Minute to Win It Game: Cookie Face
  • 5:00 Make a Party Hat
  • 5:15 Color Sort
  • 5:30 Eat Pizza
  • 6:00 Drop Around the Clock
  • 6:15 Paperplate Noisemakers
  • 6:30 Ice Cream Bar
  • 6:45 Fortune Tellers
  • 7:00 Party Blower Destruction
  • 7:15 Confetti Poppers
  • 7:30 Ball Popper Catch
  • 7:45 Snowball Scoop
  • 8:00 GLOW Dance Party
  • 8:30 Sparkling Juice Toast
  • 8:45 Balloon Drop
  • 9:00 Time to go home!

4:45: Cookie Face

The kids each took an Oreo cookie they had to place on their forehead. Pro tip: if anyone has glasses- make sure they remove them! Then the kids have a minute to get the cookie into their mouth without using their hands! It’s my favorite minute-to-win-it game!

5:00: MAKE A PARTY HAT

I printed off a template on line- from Childhoodmagic.com and the kids were able to decorate their hats and then I stapled them shut and added a string to tie around their neck.

5:15 COLOR SORT GAME

I bought a bag of generic froot loops and gave each kid a 1cup scoop. Then they had a minute to sort by color! The tricky part was they had to use their non-dominant hand.

6:00 DROP AROUND THE CLOCK

This game involved using a straw to suck up a bean- then drop it on each hour of a paper plate clock. Make sure your beans are large enough they dont go up the straw!

6:15 PAPERPLATE NOISEMAKERS

The plates from drop around the clock game- and the beans! were used to make paperplate noisemakers. Simply have the kids turn over the plates to decorate then fold them in half and fill them with some beans. I chose to staple them shut and it held the beans and sounded pretty good, too!

6:30 – ICE CREAM BAR

A smorgasboard of ice cream AND toppings? yes, please! I had a giant tub of vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup, hot fudge, caramel sauce, mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, smashed oreos (leftover from the cookie face game!), sprinkles, and whipped cream! The kids had a great time picking out all the toppings they wanted to try.

6:45 FORTUNE TELLERS

I am a kid of the 90’s so folding up one of these fortune tellers was like riding a bike. I downloaded to templates with already populated fortunes, so the kids had a choice to use one of those- or choose blank paper I had cut to size so they could make their own. They LOVED this activity- and they got used the rest of the night. Just google DIY Fortune tellers and so many how-to vidoes will pop-up for the folding!

7:00 PARTY BLOWER DESTRUCTION

For this minute-to-win-it game each kid got a party blower that they then had to use to knock down all their cups. This was one game I did not try ahead of time- so it was a little more difficult to knock down cups! I tried plastic and paper- and the paper definitely worked better.

7:15 CONFETTI POPPERS

I took a clear cup that was used in the previous game and cut it in half. The kids could then decorate their plastic cups with sharpies. Then I took a balloon and cut off the tip and wrapped it around their cups, gave each one some cotton balls and they popped it like it was hot.

7:30 BALL POPPER CATCH

The kids used their confetti poppers to pop their cotton balls into various cups that were placed at different distances!

7:45 SNOWBALL SCOOP

For this game we used the same cotton balls from the previous activities. The kids had to scoop a pile of cotton balls into a bowl- using a spoon that was in their mouth. Alot harder than we thought it would be!

8:00 GLOW DANCE PARTY

glow sticks for everyone! I blasted some music and the kids went crazy. I also had a disco light that made it even more fun!

8:30 SPARKLING JUICE TOAST

Popped some welch’s juice bottles for a NYE’s toast. Surprisingly, not many kids liked it! But they definitely liked sipping out of fancy glasses.

8:45 BALLOON DROP

This was fun! I took a tablecloth and taped it up over my fireplace and filled it up with balloons. As we counted down to zero – I had two other adults open it up and spill it all over the kids! Definitely would have been cool to have it taped to the ceiling and pull it down but we have a popcorn ceiling so tape wasnt strong enough to hold the balloons!

9:00 THATS A WRAP

What a party! Everyone had such a great day with all the games and activities- and the parents were super impressed at pickup! I think this might have to be a new tradition for us!
