SPOOKTACULAR FUN: A FRIDAY THE 13TH BIRTHDAY

When your niece is born on the 13th and loves all things spooky, what better way to celebrate her birthday than with a Friday the 13th-themed party? This year, we leaned into the eerie magic of the date and threw a party that embraced her love for the creepy and creative. The result? A frightfully fun gathering featuring different spooky stations: Get Scary, Eat Scary, Summon Scary, and Feel Scary.

Here’s how we brought the spooky vibes to life.

Get Scary: Crafting Creepy Looks

Our “Get Scary” station was all about transformation. We set up a mini makeup and costume area where the kids could turn into their favorite spooky characters.

Face Painting: Kids lined up to have their faces painted with eerie designs like skeletons, vampires, and creepy clowns – some even just opted for blood dripping on their faces!

Costume Accessories: A table full of fake fangs, wigs, and tattoos allowed everyone to mix and match to create their ultimate scary look.

Eat Scary: Creepy but Delicious Treats

No party is complete without themed snacks, and our “Eat Scary” station was as delicious as it was spooky.

Monster Cupcakes: Each cupcake was topped with edible “eyeballs,” and drips of red frosting “blood.”

Blood Bags: Drinking out of a blood bag vs. a normal cup makes a spooky difference! These bags were a total hit and it just feels so wrong drinking fruit punch out of one!

Graveyard Dirt Cups: Layers of chocolate pudding, crushed Oreos, and gummy worms created a creepy-cute dessert.

Finger Sandwiches: Hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls became “mummy fingers”

Summon Scary: Unleashing the Spooky Spirit

No Friday the 13th party would be complete without a little supernatural fun! At the “Summon Scary” station, we embraced the eerie thrill of the unknown.

Ouija Board: The kids loved asking silly questions and pretending to connect with spirits. (That is until it says there is a ghost in the house!)

Fortune Telling: Using a dark room and LED candles, we set up a mini fortune-telling booth where my friend dressed-up as a fortune-teller and read fortunes with a magic 8 ball and a kid tarot set.

Light as a Feather- Stiff as a Board: Do you remember this game as a kid? Have someone lay down and close their eyes. The rest of the party guests gather around and place their pointer and middle finger under the kid in the middle. Then you simply repeat “light as a feather, stiff as a board” and miraculously the person is lifted! Or at least their arms and legs do 😉

Feel Scary: The Haunted Experience

This station was all about getting scared. Since the party was at night- as soon as it was dark we went outside for a scary haunted maze through my backyard. Thankful for an older brother and his friends- they played along and jumped out at various points to scare the kids. The maze then ended at a bonfire where everyone went around and shared spooky stories.

The Perfect Birthday for a Spooky Soul

The party was a huge success, and my niece couldn’t stop smiling (even while sporting a vampire grin). The Friday the 13th theme was the perfect way to celebrate her unique birthday and love of all things scary. The guest also got to choose to adopt a black cat or zombie to take home and care for!

If you have a spooky-loving kid in your life, I highly recommend throwing a party like this. With a little creativity, you can transform a potentially unlucky day into a celebration they’ll never forget!

Decorations: bloody gauze, bloody tablecloths (use the extra to hang on the walls throughout the house), scary garland
